Last Saturday, Mayor Catherine Payne attended the annual Navaratri celebration hosted by the Asian Indian Heritage Association (AIHA) at Hillsborough High School. Navaratri—meaning “nine nights” in Sanskrit—is a traditional Hindu festival dedicated to honoring the Divine Feminine, known as Devi or Shakti. The celebration recognizes the triumph of good over evil, symbolized by the Goddess Durga’s victory over the demon Mahishasura.

The event brought together families, performers, and community members for an evening of cultural pride, music, dance, and devotion. Hillsborough Township is proud to support traditions that highlight the rich cultural diversity of our community and celebrate the heritage of residents who contribute so much to the township’s vibrancy.
