SOMERVILLE, NJ – The Somerset County-operated Senior Wellness Center at Hillsborough, located at 339 South Branch Road, invites residents age 60 and above to participate in in-person “Tai Chi Chih” exercise classes. Tai Chi Chih is ideal for older adults, and experience is not necessary.

Tai Chi Chih is a mindfulness-moving meditation practice that is easy to learn. In this program, participants will perform 19 gentle movements and one pose, which can help improve balance, increase energy, relieve pain, boost the body’s immune system, and improve cognitive health. Participants of almost any age or ability can perform these movements while standing or sitting.

The ten-week event will run from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. beginning Sept. 21 and will continue every Wednesday through Nov. 23.

Pre-registration is required and will be open until Wednesday, Sept. 14. A program fee of $50 is requested before the first class. Class size is limited. Registration fees will be returned to registrants via mail if the class becomes filled.

If participants drop out or are a no-show, the registration fee is non-refundable.

To register, or for more information, call Health Promotion Specialist Lisa Cheng at 908-704-6327 or send an email to lcheng@co.somerset.nj.us.
