ADOPT-A-FAMILY PROGRAM TO HELP FEED IN-NEED RESIDENTS

SOMERVILLE, NJ – It is not too late to donate to Somerset County’s 13th annual Adopt-A-Family (AAF) food drive by donating to a local participating food bank. Donations will help provide Somerset County’s in-need families with a Thanksgiving meal. The deadline for donations is Nov.19.

“Rising food prices and the increasing costs of other essential goods have put a strain on people’s budgets,” said Somerset County Commissioner Director Shanel Y. Robinson. “By donating $48 you will help feed a family of four. If the suggested amount is too much, donate any amount to help put some food on a family’s table this Thanksgiving.”

Donating will not only help feed families in need, but it will set a positive example for family members and friends, help create a healthier and more productive community, and donors will feel as if they are making a positive impact.

Hillsborough Township Community Assistance Network Director Bob Wagner tells the story of a resident who needed help on Thanksgiving and is now a donor to the program. "When a former client now wants to be a donor to help others, it validates everything the community and our organization strives to do in our mission to help those less fortunate," said Wagner.

Last year, AAF participant the Samaritan Homeless Interim Program (SHIP) collected almost $15,000 for families in need of a Thanksgiving meal. “Our donors trust us and usually give double or even more than what is requested, but every bit helps,” said SHIP Founder and Director Tom O’Leary.
