SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ – Education professionals grappling with declining student attendance will benefit from attending “School Phobia,” a free Zoom webinar hosted by the Somerset County Office of Youth Services and presented by Ira Hays, director of program development at GenPsych from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 16.

Over the past few years, students have been finding it difficult to return to their regular routines, and school attendance is declining. Experts believe this trend is due to students trying to adjust to fluctuating schedules while alternating between remote and in-person classes, which is causing them anxiety.

In this informative presentation, educators will learn how to differentiate between school avoidance, school refusal, and school phobia. They also will find out how to assess and treat all three syndromes.

Who Can Attend?

The webinar is appropriate for social workers, certified counselors and other professionals who support children, youth, families, parents, and anyone else who would like to attend the program. Participants can earn one professional development credit.
