Somerville, NJ – RideWise, the transportation advocacy organization located in Somerville, has refurbished bicycles available for adults needing transportation to work, job interviews, or job training through the agency's BikeConnect program.

Any Somerset County-based nonprofit organization can refer adults 18 years and older to RideWise by completing an application online at www.ridewise.org.
The BikeConnect program is a partnership between RideWise and Pop's Bike Shop, with RideWise soliciting bicycle donations and paying for the repairs made by Pop's. The North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority and the Federal Highway Administration provide funding for the program.

"Residents donated 23 bicycles at last month's Earth Day bike drive bike drive, which have been inspected, cleaned, and repaired by Pop's Bike Shop and are available for adults who need transportation," said Donna Allison, Executive Director. "Every bicycle we provide includes a helmet, bell, lights, and a lock, and clients receive a short session on riding safely," said Allison.
Ninety clients have been referred to the BikeConnect program by local nonprofit organizations since July 2021. "We're finding clients are using their "new" bikes to get to and from jobs, to search for jobs, to participate in job training/educational opportunities, or to travel to essential services such as doctor's appointments or grocery shopping," Allison said.
RideWise Inc. promotes efficient and sustainable travel options. The agency partners with businesses, schools, nonprofits, and communities to address mobility issues through education and advocacy.
