Raritan Borough New: Mayor and Councilmembers Announce a Home Improvement Plan

Image

Many social media pages have been used by Raritan residents to express their opinions on apartment buildings and the vacant Raritan Mall. The abandoned mall has been the subject of a debate about whether more apartments are needed or whether local retail stores should be added. The Raritan Mall has remained abandoned due to a combination of factors. One reason is the rise of online shopping, which has led to a decline in brick-and-mortar retail stores. Additionally, the location and layout of the mall may not be conducive to attracting businesses and shoppers. Finally, the lack of investment and revitalization efforts from the local government and property owners have contributed to its continued vacancy.

Another win for Raritan residents and a step in the right direction…I am excited to let you know that the last night Raritan council voted to adopt the Home Improvement Program. This program aims to assist eligible residents in correcting any existing interior or exterior health, safety and code violations in their homes. Thanks to the Fair Share Housing Program, Raritan has established a trust fund specifically designated for qualified residents and their home improvement projects. I had the privilege of collaborating with CFPH to initiate this program and presenting it during the council meeting for adoption. It's important to note that this program is already fully funded through our affordable housing commitment, so there will be no financial burden on the residents. You will hear more about the program and application process in the next few days.

Sincerely,

Umesh Agrawal Raritan Borough Council Member
