On Wednesday, June 10, 2026, Commissioner Sara Sooy joined residents, advocates, and service providers for a public hearing hosted by the Somerset County Office on Aging and Disability Services (OoADS) in partnership with the Aging Advisory Council. The annual hearing serves as an important forum for residents to share ideas, identify community needs, and offer recommendations to strengthen services funded through the Older Americans Act.
Human Services Director Mollie GreeneCommissioner Sooy emphasized the value of the county’s senior wellness network and the people who make it thrive.
“I’ve been fortunate to attend several events hosted at the Senior Wellness Centers here in Somerset County and to see the thoughtful and creative environment provided to those attending,” she said. “Somerset County is grateful for the incredible people who provide services and programs to our older and disabled residents year‑round. I’m proud that, as a Commissioner, I have a part in helping to create that space for our residents.”
Human Services Director Mollie Greene underscored why public input remains essential.
“It’s important to hear from the public about what services are most needed and important to adults over 60 and those over 18 with a physical disability,” Greene said.

According to the New Jersey State Health Assessment Data (NJSHAD), New Jersey’s older adult population is expanding at a significant pace. Between 2010 and 2024, the proportion of residents aged 65 and older increased 33%, while the total number of older adults grew 43%. Somerset County mirrors this statewide trend, reinforcing the need for accessible, high‑quality aging services.
