The Rise of the “Daddy Makeover”: Why More Men Are Turning to Cosmetic Care

Cosmetic care is undergoing a quiet transformation — and men are at the center of it. Once considered a niche audience, male patients are now a major part of the aesthetic landscape. According to 2025 survey data, 95% of facial plastic surgeons treated male patients last year, up from 92% in 2024. The increase reflects a cultural shift in how men view self‑care, confidence, and aging.

Today’s male patients aren’t necessarily chasing youth. Instead, they’re seeking subtle, natural‑looking improvements that help them appear healthier, more rested, and more defined. This shift has given rise to a new trend gaining momentum across the country: the “Daddy Makeover.”

What Is a “Daddy Makeover”?

The Daddy Makeover is a customizable blend of surgical and non‑surgical treatments designed specifically for men. It often includes:

  • Brotox (Botox for men)
  • Jawline contouring
  • Neck tightening
  • Body sculpting or liposuction
  • Skin rejuvenation
  • Fat reduction for stubborn areas

Unlike traditional cosmetic procedures aimed at dramatic transformation, the Daddy Makeover focuses on refinement — helping men look energized, confident, and aligned with how they want to present themselves.

The trend intersects with several cultural conversations dominating social media and men’s wellness spaces, including looksmaxxing, male body image, and even Couvade Syndrome, where some men experience physical changes alongside their pregnant partner.

Expert Insights: Dr. Claudia Kim Answers Our Questions

To deepen our understanding of the Daddy Makeover trend and the evolving landscape of men’s cosmetic care, Dr. Claudia Kim shared her perspective in a recent interview. Here are her responses, in her own words.

How would you describe a “Daddy Makeover,” and what types of treatments does it typically include?

Dr. Kim: “Daddy Makeover” is a customized combination of surgical and non-surgical treatments designed to help men look more defined, refreshed, and confident while still looking like themselves. It is not one standard procedure. For some men, it may include body contouring, liposuction, gynecomastia surgery, or abdominal definition. For others, it may involve non-surgical treatments like neuromodulators such as Botox, fillers, skin tightening, or facial rejuvenation to address tiredness, volume loss, or early signs of aging. The common goal is a natural-looking improvement. Results can range from subtle refinements to more dramatic transformations, depending on each patient's goals, anatomy, and the procedures performed.

    1. What makes this trend stand out compared to previous years?

What stands out now is how open men are becoming about cosmetic care. In the past, many male patients were hesitant to ask about aesthetic treatments or worried that the results would look obvious. Today, men are coming in with clearer goals. They want to look healthier, stronger, more rested, or more defined, and they are much more comfortable viewing cosmetic care as part of overall self-maintenance. For some men, that confidence also carries into their professional lives. In competitive workplaces, looking rested, energized, and confident can affect how someone feels walking into a meeting, interview, presentation, or leadership role. I think more men are realizing this is not about vanity or trying to look like someone else. For many patients, it is about confidence, feeling more comfortable in their own skin, and wanting their appearance to better match how they feel.

How much influence do social media trends — like looksmaxxing or male body‑image conversations — have on the patients you see?

Social media has definitely made men more aware of what is possible. Terms like “looksmaxxing,” “Brotox,” jawline contouring, and body sculpting have brought male aesthetics into a much more public conversation. That can be positive when it helps men feel less embarrassed about asking questions. But it can also create unrealistic expectations if someone is comparing themselves to filtered images or extreme transformations online. Social media may open the door to the conversation, but medical judgment should guide the treatment plan. My role is to help patients separate trends from what is actually safe, appropriate, and flattering for their own anatomy.

Are younger male patients approaching cosmetic care differently than older men?

Dr. Kim: Yes. Younger male patients are often more comfortable talking about aesthetics because they have grown up seeing these conversations online. They may come in asking about prevention, facial balance, body definition, or small refinements before a concern becomes more noticeable. Older male patients are often more focused on looking less tired, addressing changes from aging or weight fluctuation, or restoring confidence after years of putting their own appearance last. Across age groups, most men are not trying to look completely different. They want to look like a better-rested, more confident version of themselves.

Are there treatments you recommend for men who want noticeable but natural improvements before events, vacations, or work milestones?

Dr. Kim: It depends on the timeline. For men who want a refreshed look without significant downtime, neuromodulators like Botox can soften lines and help someone look more rested, while fillers can be used very conservatively to restore volume or improve facial balance. Skin treatments can also help improve texture, tone, and overall brightness. If someone has an event or vacation coming up, I usually recommend planning even non-surgical treatments at least a few weeks in advance so there is time for any swelling, bruising, or minor adjustments to settle. For body concerns, treatments like liposuction or gynecomastia surgery can create more noticeable changes, but they require much more planning and recovery time. The key is timing. If someone has a major event, vacation, or work milestone, they should schedule a consultation early so the treatment plan fits the recovery window.

What advice would you give to a man considering his first cosmetic treatment?

Dr. Kim: The advice I would give for someone considering their first cosmetic treatment would be to start with a consultation, not a procedure. A good consultation should focus on your goals, your anatomy, your medical history, and what kind of result would look natural for you. I always tell first-time patients that they do not need to do everything at once. Often, the best approach is conservative and gradual. It is also important to choose a qualified provider who understands male anatomy, because the goal is usually to enhance masculine features while avoiding results that look overdone or out of balance.

            1. Are there misconceptions about male cosmetic care that you’d like to clear up?

One major misconception is that cosmetic care is only for women or only for people who want to look dramatically different. That is not what I see in practice. Many male patients are professionals, fathers, partners, or men going through major life transitions who simply want to feel more confident in how they present themselves. Another misconception is that results have to look obvious. When cosmetic treatments are done thoughtfully, the best results often make a patient look more rested, refreshed, or in better balance — not like he had “work done.”
