Bridgewater has a new destination for dessert lovers — and it’s unlike anything New Jersey has seen before. Scoops & Pearls, founded in Australia by Indrajeet Magar, has brought its Australian‑born Indian dessert concept to State Route 28 in Villa Plaza, introducing families to flavors that go far beyond traditional ice cream.
Indrajeet’s vision has always been clear: show the world that Indian cuisine is more than butter chicken and samosas. His mission is to bring authentic Indian‑inspired desserts to a global audience in a modern, approachable way.
The menu reflects that mission with flavors such as Pink Guava with salt and chilli, Exotic Rose, Pineapple with chat masala, and more than 40+ artisan ice creams — all eggless, gelatine‑free, and crafted through meticulous research and development.
A Leap of Faith That Changed the Brand’s Future
At the heart of the Bridgewater store is Owner Poonam Gajwani, whose commitment has been instrumental in bringing Scoops & Pearls to New Jersey. After a 15‑year career in IT, she made the bold decision to leave the corporate world and dedicate herself full‑time to the brand.
“Her belief in our products and vision gave me the confidence to expand into the U.S.,” Indrajeet shared. “Her dedication and perfectionist approach have helped the Bridgewater store improve month after month.”
Flavors With Meaning, Crafted With Care
Scoops & Pearls doesn’t chase trends — it creates flavors that tell a story.
“We balance familiarity with adventure,” Poonam explained. “Fruit flavors are universally loved, so adding Pink Guava with salt and chilli or Pineapple with chat masala gives customers something exciting while still being approachable.”
Every flavor undergoes months of testing, refining, and feedback before it reaches the menu. The result is a lineup that sparks curiosity and keeps customers returning to try something new.
Bridgewater has embraced the concept wholeheartedly. “People are far more adventurous than we assume,” Poonam added. “The community has shown us that authentic Indian flavors can be appreciated well beyond the Indian audience.”
A Community Gathering Spot
Since opening, Scoops & Pearls has quickly become a favorite hangout for students, families, and late‑night dessert seekers. Word of mouth — the brand’s strongest marketing tool in Australia — is now driving growth in New Jersey as well.
The shop has catered weddings, birthday parties, summer camps, and NGO events, even serving as the official dessert partner for community gatherings. With premium boba teas, faluda, iced teas, scoop shakes, and a wide range of ice creams, there’s something for every age group.
Combined with late‑night hours, the store has become more than a dessert shop — it’s a place where memories are made.
The Next Chapter: New Jersey Expansion
Scoops & Pearls is now preparing for its next phase of growth. Over the next 12–18 months, the team aims to open 4–5 new franchise locations, with strong interest already coming from multicultural communities eager to bring the concept to their towns.

But for Poonam and Indrajeet, expansion is about more than new stores. “We’re committed to hiring locally and giving young people valuable experience in hospitality and customer service,” they shared. “We want every store to become an active part of its community, not just another retail outlet.”
Partnerships with local suppliers, schools, colleges, event planners, and neighboring businesses are central to their strategy. Collaboration, they believe, is how small businesses thrive.
A Message for Local Entrepreneurs
For Somerset County entrepreneurs, the story of Scoops & Pearls is a reminder that bold ideas — even unconventional ones — can flourish with persistence, research, and the right people beside you.
“Our story is proof that bold ideas can grow when you stay true to your vision,” said Poonam and Indrajeet. “Commitment, consistency, and the right people make all the difference. Every brand begins with a single step — and we hope our journey encourages others to take theirs.”
