Hunterdon County Chief Financial Officer Charged with Theft by Deception

Hunterdon County Prosecutor Renée M. Robeson announced that on August 4, 2026, Cameron T. Keng, 39, of Fort Lee, New Jersey, the Chief Financial Officer for Franklin Township (Hunterdon County), was charged with theft by deception.

On August 4, 2026, detectives from the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office arrested and charged Keng with one count of third-degree Theft by Deception, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:20-4.

In June 2026, Unity Bank initiated an internal investigation into payroll fee transactions involving Franklin Township. During the course of that investigation, the bank identified an alleged double-billing scheme and reported its findings to the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office. This matter remains under investigation.

Keng was provisionally represented by Jada Mayson, Esq., at his initial appearance and was released pending further proceedings. He is scheduled to appear before the Honorable Christopher J. Garrenger, J.S.C. for a pre-indictment conference on September 14, 2026.

Third-degree charges may result in criminal penalties, including, but not limited to, a term of imprisonment between three and five years and a fine not to exceed $15,000. A
criminal charge does not constitute evidence of guilt. Every person is entitled to a
presumption of innocence until their guilt is proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
