Supporting Somerset County: Volunteers, Partnerships & Back‑to‑School Readiness

The Food Bank Network of Somerset County continues to show what community strength looks like — not just through daily service, but through the people and partners who step forward to help.

Earlier this week, the Food Bank Network offered a heartfelt thank‑you to the Total Rewards Team at PVH, who spent Thursday, August 6th working alongside the warehouse crew. Their hands-on support helped keep essential operations running smoothly, ensuring food and resources reach families across Somerset County who rely on the network’s services. It’s a reminder that when local organizations step up, the impact ripples far beyond the warehouse doors.

A Second Community Event: Back‑to‑School Resource Day at TD Bank Ballpark

Just two days later, on Saturday, August 8, 2026, the Food Bank Network partnered with the Somerset Patriots to host a free resource event at TD Bank Ballpark — a community‑driven effort to help families prepare for the 2026–2027 school year.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., families received FREE Fresh Produce Boxes sourced directly from Fairgrown Farm and meal kits prepared by Somerset County, NJ, ensuring students start the school year with healthy food and reliable support.

Human Services Director Mollie Greene reflected on the importance of the event, noting how the SNAP crisis of November 2025 highlighted the growing challenges families face — from food insecurity to rising costs and limited access to essential services. “This event is helping families prepare for a successful school year while strengthening access to the resources that promote long-term stability and well-being in Somerset County,” she shared.

The morning brought together leaders and volunteers who make these efforts possible. Special thanks go to Commissioner Elizabeth Graner and Commissioner Sara Sooy for stopping by to greet families, and to Kate Russo, whose coordination ensured a smooth and successful event. The Somerset Patriots generously opened their stadium space, reinforcing their ongoing commitment to the community.

And a standout moment: Watchung Hills Regional High School students Rohan and Arianna P. delivered exceptional support, helping distribute produce boxes to over 500 families — a remarkable contribution from two young leaders dedicated to service.
