Somerset County Sheriff’s Office Honors 9/11 Heroes with Annual Stair Climb Challenge

The Somerset County Sheriff’s Office gathered on Friday for its annual 9/11 Stair Climb Challenge, a solemn and powerful tribute to the first responders who climbed 110 flights of stairs inside the World Trade Center towers on September 11, 2001. Participants completed the symbolic 2,200‑step climb, reflecting the courage and determination shown by firefighters, police officers, and emergency personnel on that day.

The event is organized each year by Lieutenant Karissa Hahn and her team, who work to ensure the county continues to honor the legacy of those who served and sacrificed. Sheriff Darrin Russo once again took part in the climb, a tradition he keeps to show his support and commitment to remembering 9/11.

This year’s challenge brought together members of the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office, Franklin Township Fire Department, South Bound Brook Police Department, and Watchung Police Department, joining the Sheriff’s Office in a shared moment of reflection and unity.

The Stair Climb has become a meaningful local tradition — a reminder that Somerset County continues to stand together in honoring the bravery, service, and lives lost on 9/11.
