SOMERVILLE, N.J. - Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of County Detectives Meredith McKay, Somerset County Sheriff Darrin J. Russo, and the Somerset County Chiefs of Police Association announced that seven police vehicles have been wrapped in pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset, Peapack Private Bank & Trust, Open Road Auto Group, and the Far Hills Race Meeting Association have once again funded the wrapping of the “pink” police vehicles.

These seven vehicles will be utilized for community engagements throughout Somerset County during the month of October to bring awareness to the importance of medical screenings and early detection for both women and men. The law enforcement agencies participating in this awareness campaign are the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office, Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, Far Hills Police Department, Peapack-Gladstone Police Department, Franklin Township Police Department, Watchung Police Department and Bedminster Police Department.

Prosecutor McDonald stated, “The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office is deeply committed to assisting residents to maintain awareness of breast cancer and to provide reliable information for early detection. Every credible medical study emphasizes the critical importance of early detection. The Pink Cars utilized by law enforcement throughout Somerset County help connect residents with valuable resources for early detection. A resident’s ability to scan a QR Code and set up a medical screening at no charge is an important service we render to the community.”

“We hope the pink cars help remind women to take charge of their breast health and get their annual mammograms to help detect breast cancer at its earliest, most treatable stages,” said Kerstin Scheper, Assistant Vice President, Oncology Services at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset’s Steeplechase Cancer Center. Together with Rutgers Cancer Institute, the state’s only NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Steeplechase Cancer Center provides comprehensive care for breast cancer, from diagnosis through treatment and survivorship.

A ceremony to introduce the “pink” police vehicles will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at 10:00 am outside the Somerset County Historic Courthouse in Somerville, NJ. All seven vehicles will be displayed. The vehicles will be available within their respective jurisdictions for the public to sign and take photographs. Attending Thursday’s “pink” police vehicle event are members of the seven participating law enforcement agencies, the Somerset County Board of County Commissioners, respective Township Committee members, the Far Hills Race Meeting organizers, representatives from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset, Open Road Auto Group, and Peapack Private Bank & Trust, as well as Somerset County law enforcement from the Somerset County Chiefs of Police Association, and Somerset County officials.
