SOMERVILLE, NJ, Oct. 28, 2026 – Somerset Health Care Foundation recently unveiled the Josh and Rachel Kalafer Family Lounge in recognition of the couple’s generous support of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) Somerset, an RWJBarnabas Health hospital.
The lounge is located at the entrance to the hospital’s 3 Pavilion Medical and 3 Pavilion Surgical inpatient units, which opened in 2025 with 45 all-private rooms for post-surgical and medical/surgical patients.
Josh Kalafer is the owner of Land Rover Princeton, co-owner of Clinton Honda and co-owner and co-chairman of the Somerset Patriots, the Double-AA affiliate of the New York Yankees. He is chairman of the Somerset Health Care Foundation Board of Trustees and a member of the RWJUH Board of Trustees. He has chaired the Foundation’s annual golf outing since 2013, raising more than $2 million to support RWJUH Somerset. He joined the Foundation Board of Trustees in 2023.
“It’s so fitting that it is a family area that bears Josh and Rachel’s name because when I think of them, I think of family,” said Deirdre Blaus, Chief Administrative Officer, RWJUH Somerset. “They’ve been part of our extended family at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset for many years, and they carry on a family legacy that has left an indelible imprint on nearly every corner of our hospital campus.”
Josh’s late father, Steve, also served as Chairman of the Somerset Health Care Foundation Board of Trustees and led numerous fundraising campaigns to support the growth of the hospital over two decades. In addition, he was a member of the RWJUH Board of Trustees,
playing a key role in guiding the merger between the Robert Wood Johnson Health System and Barnabas Health in 2016. He later served as a member of the RWJBarnabas Health Board of Trustees.
Josh’s mother, Suzanne, his brother, Jonathan, and Jonathan’s wife, Kori, have also been generous supporters of the hospital. Josh and Rachel’s son is a member of the Somerset Health Care Foundation Youth Board.
RWJUH Somerset dedicated its Rapid Decision Unit in the Kalafer Family name in 2025.
“Looking around our campus, there are signs everywhere of the Kalafer family’s legacy – from our Steeplechase Cancer Center and Emergency Department to our Orthopedic, Oncology and Neuroscience pavilions,” said Donna Castronovo, Vice President, Somerset Health
Care Foundation. “We are so grateful for their support of our hospital across three generations to help us care for families throughout our community.”
