April 6, 2022, Hillsborough, NJ - - Girls on the Run of Central NJ (GOTRCNJ) is currently registering 3-5th grade girls for its Spring 2022 season starting the week of April 11th. Register here or go to www.gotrcnj.org to learn more.
GOTRCNJ is adapting to meet the needs of the five counties it serves, Camden, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean and Somerset for its Spring 2022 season by expanding to more parks and recreation centers. There are still openings at the following sites: Bel Air Park, Bridgewater; East County Park, Warren; Hillsborough Amsterdam Drive Walking Path; Middlebush Park, Somerset; Meadow Ridge Park, Rumson; Perth Amboy Recreation Youth Complex and Veterans Park, South Brunswick.
“Our staff and trained coaches are ready to bring critical social-emotional programming to Central NJ girls at a time when they need it the most in their adolescent development,” said Executive Director, Donna York.
During the eight-week program the girls, led by certified volunteer coaches, learn about themselves, how to build healthy relationships, be part of a team, and the importance of giving back to their community. They learn that it is not acceptable to gossip and bully, and they learn how to stop and take a breath whenever faced with peer pressure.
“The 5k Celebration at the end of the program provides the girls with a tangible understanding of the confidence that comes through accomplishment. Each girl completes the 3.1 miles at a pace that is right for her. “In my twenty-one years of spearheading this program, I am still amazed that every girl crosses the finished line,” said York.
Additionally, along with generous community support and grant funding, GOTRCNJ is steadfast in ensuring that girls are not turned away from the program due to financial consideration.
