Ongoing Death Investigation in Somerville on Brookside Avenue

SOMERVILLE, N.J. – Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of County Detectives Meredith McKay and Somerville Chief of Police Dennis Manning announce an on-going death investigation.

Prosecutor McDonald stated that on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at approximately 7:26 p.m. Somerville Police responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting concerns for the welfare of a female resident of Brookside Avenue in Somerville, N.J. Responding Officers located the female victim with multiple lacerations to her chest, neck and thigh. The female victim, whom authorities are only identifying as a 46-year-old Somerville resident was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Prosecutor McDonald stated that detectives from the Somerville Police Department along with detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, Crime Scene Investigations Unit, and Medical Investigators from the New Jersey Northern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene to conduct the investigation. A postmortem examination will be performed by the Medical Examiner’s Office to positively identify the victim and to determine the cause and manner of death. The investigation is on-going to identify the actor(s) involved along with motive.
