VFW Post #8371 Past Senior Vice Commander Allen McRae, Jr. Will Serve as 2022 Memorial Day Grand Marshal

Mayor Shawn Lipani announced that Hillsborough resident Allen McRae, Jr., Hillsborough VFW Post #8371 Senior Vice Commander and Army Veteran, will lead Hillsborough’s 2022 Memorial Day Commemoration Ceremony on May 28th, as the Grand Marshal of the Parade.

“It is our honor to have Veteran McRae lead our ceremonies this year as the Grand Marshal,” said Mayor Lipani during his announcement.

Born in the Bronx, Veteran McRae spent his early years in North Carolina before returning back to the Bronx when he was 15. In 1961 he was drafted into the Army and began training at Fort Dix, New Jersey. After training, he was deployed to Europe during the Berlin Wall Crisis and then spent some time in France and Germany. Upon his return to the states he remained in the Army Reserves for four years. Veteran McRae was trained as an Executive Chef and was the Operations Manager for Food and Nutrition Services for Lenox Hill Hospital for over 44 years.

Veteran McRae is a member of Hillsborough VFW Post #8371 and is currently the Senior Vice Commander for the Post and is now serving as a Trustee. He is also a Deacon at a Baptist Church in Plainfield, New Jersey, a Mason in Prince Hall Lodge, and a Past Master of St. John’s Lodge #29. Previously as a member of the Boys and Girls Club in Harlem, he was a Board Member for 25 years.

The Memorial Day Commemorative Program will kick off with the ‘Salute to Military Service’ Breakfast at the Peter J. Biondi Municipal Building at 7:30 a.m. It will be followed by the Memorial Day Parade which will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the intersection of Auten and Triangle Roads. The event will conclude with the ceremony at the Garden of Honor, at the parade finish line. The ‘Salute to Military Service’ Breakfast will be held May 28th rain or shine. The rain date for the Parade and Garden of Honor Ceremony is Sunday, May 29th.

All Hillsborough Military Service personnel are invited to participate in the ‘Salute to Military Service’ Breakfast and to lead Hillsborough’s Memorial Day Parade and Commemoration Program on May 28th. . Registration is required for the breakfast and can be completed online at the Township’s Parks and Recreation website, by calling the Parks and Recreation Department at 908-369-4832, or by completing the paper registration form.

“All Township Military Service personnel, Veterans, spouses and widows are invited to provide their leadership and join us on May 28th in commemorating this important day," concluded Mayor Lipani.
