The Somerset County Libraries - North Plainfield branch has unveiled its summer "Adoption Shell-ter." Readers are invited to adopt a pet shell, give it a name, and receive an official adoption certificate.

"Reading buddy programs like this, and our monthly Read to a Therapy Dog program, connect readers to the Library's wealth of literacy resources in a fun and engaging way," said Jodi Silverman, youth services department supervisor. "Combined with SCLSNJ's Summer Reading Challenge, our hope is youth will discover a new love of reading while avoiding the summer slide. Hopefully, readers of all ages will regularly read to their new pet."Over 17 pet shells were adopted in the first hour of the program. The shell-ter will be available through the end of August or until supplies last. More: https://sclsnj.org/adoption-shell-ter.
