BRIDGEWATER – On October 7th, students in the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) at Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School (SCVTHS) participated in the New Jersey Walk to Fight Alzheimer’s. NTHS members organized a team which consisted of 10 students as well as four SCVTHS staff members. The walk took place at Duke Island Park and is held to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.

In addition to organizing a team to take part in the walk, NTHS also initiated several fundraisers to contribute to Alzheimer’s New Jersey. The initial fundraising goal was set at $500.00. However, the amount of funds raised more than doubled the goal as the SCVTHS team accumulated over $1,000.00.

Ms. Santiago, NTHS Advisor stated: “Through several fundraisers and everyone's support, the SCVTHS Team doubled their goal! Over $1,000.00 was raised! A special thank you to Ms. Morlock, Mr. & Ms. Watson, Ms. Sullivan, Mr. Eng, Ms. Abella, Ms. Schuster and NTHS members for braving the rain and participating in the walk.

The SCVTHS NTHS Chapter currently has 43 members that are committed to supporting community service projects and donating to various charities throughout the year. NTHS students are selected based on their academic success, as well as recommendations from their Career and Technical Education instructor(s).
