Andres Ortega Named SCVTHS Student of the Month for December 2023

BRIDGEWATER – Andres Ortega, a Junior in the Electrical Construction program at Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School (SCVTHS), has been selected as Student of the Month for December 2023. Andres is the son of Tulia Acosta and Juan Carlos Ortega of North Plainfield.

Several teachers commented on why they thought Andres deserves this recognition. Electrical Construction instructor Michael McClain stated that “Andres has a positive attitude towards learning. He is driven and a self-motivator, and he is also active in helping other students learn as well.” Social Studies teacher Meghan Welch added “Andres is a hardworking, diligent, and courteous student. He works well with his peers, and is kind to his teachers and peers.”

When not attending classes, Andres participates in the SCVTHS Student Safety Committee, representing the Electrical Construction shop. He has earned a place on the Principal’s Honor Roll, and is OSHA certified. He was also part of an initiative at the school to boost voter registration. Outside of school, Andres enjoys playing basketball, going to the gym, listening to music, and spending time with his family. He plans to attend college to continue to pursue an education that will help him achieve his goals.

When told about receiving Student of the Month honors, Andres stated “I enjoy being here at VoTech. I like the environment of my shop. I am very fortunate to be able to attend here. I thank my parents and anyone who believed in me and continues to support me.”
