BRIDGEWATER – Yvanjalis Romero, a Junior in the Health Occupations program at Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School (SCVTHS), has been selected as Student of the Month for February 2024. Yvanjalis is the daughter of Lisbeth Cintron and Ivan Romero of Manville.

English instructor Christopher Miller was among the teachers who spoke highly of Yvanjalis, saying that she is “a hard-working, conscientious student in my English 11 Honors class who goes above-and-beyond in pursuit of academic excellence.” Guillermo Reina, who teaches Spanish at SCVTHS, echoed these sentiments, stating that Yvanjalis exhibits “high work ethics, a high spirit of collaboration, and high academic achievement.”

At school, Yvanjalis is a member of HOSA-Future Health Professionals, represented her program at the 2023 SCVTHS Open House, and has participated in community service events like the fall leaf clean-up. She has been on the Principal’s Honor Roll and recently presented a project that incorporated AI to the Board of Education.

In her free time, Yvanjalis enjoys crocheting, playing Dungeons & Dragons, and collecting vinyl records. She is also involved with the Manville Drama Club. Her future plans include attending college after graduating from SCVTHS to pursue a doctorate in Occupational Therapy with a minor in Spanish.

When told about receiving Student of the Month honors, Yvanjalis said “I’m really grateful to Senor Reina, who recommended me, my family, and especially my friends.”
