High school students Sing Off in late March

The high school’s auditorium will be the site of this popular event that not only showcases the talents of high school singers but also raises funds for the Kimberley A. Nelson Foundation. The performance will start at 7:30 p.m. on March 22nd.

The Kimberly A. Nelson Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation established in 2010 to honor the memory of Kim Nelson, a beloved member of the Class of 2010 at Bridgewater-Raritan High School who passed away in September 2009. Nothing gave Kim greater enjoyment than performing on stage, whether in a Chamber Choir, musical theater, or in her church.

In celebration of that joy and in recognition of Kim's academic accomplishments the mission of the Foundation is to provide an annual scholarship to a Bridgewater-Raritan High School senior who has been active in choir and musical theater as well as having demonstrated a commitment to academic excellence and community service. The Foundation also supports, through grants, those educational initiatives that promote and encourage participation in vocal performance and musical theater.

Kim Cook is a member of the Kimberley A. Nelson Foundation Committee and is a 3rd Grade Teacher at the John F. Kennedy Primary School in the Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District.

And she is a passionate singer—she sang in her college choir at The College of New Jersey and continues to sing today–and is also a dedicated and energetic guiding force behind the Sing-Off.

She touched on how the Sing-Off was shifted up to earlier in the year with its March date. The Sing-Off was held in 2023 on June 9.

“We moved it up to March to showcase in what we feel is a better time,’’ explained Ms. Cook. “We feel that we will attract more people than in June. We are interested if this does work out.”
11 Bridgewater-Raritan High School students are eager to exploit their singing talents—and win some cash, too. The champion will pocket $500, the runner-up will receive $300 and the third-place finisher will take home $200.

The 11 finalists passed the audition that was held on February 10.
