Raritan Woman arrested after motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian.

From the Raritan Police Blotter - On July 3, 2024, at 2:53 p.m., Raritan patrol officers were dispatched to Boro Liquors on Route 206 for a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian. Officers were further advised that the vehicle had fled the area. While responding to the call, officers were provided with the fleeing vehicle's registration and description of the driver.

The driver was later identified as Lorena Manobanda-Moreno, 38, of Lindner Court in Raritan. Officers at the scene of the crash determined that Moreno had struck a parked car in the parking lot and entered the store. After exiting the store, Moreno was confronted by a 48-year-old Somerville woman who witnessed the accident. Moreno proceeded to enter her vehicle to leave the scene. As Moreno drove in reverse, the 48-year-old victim was struck.

The 48-year-old woman declined medical assistance at the scene. Additional officers responded to Lindner Court and located Moreno in the proximity of her vehicle. As officers attempted to question Moreno, she attempted to run into her residence by jumping over her balcony railing. Officers quickly apprehended Moreno and she was placed under arrest. Moreno was charged with driving while intoxicated, refusing to submit a breath sample, leaving the scene of an accident with injury, failing to report an accident, obstruction, and resisting arrest. Moreno was later taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
