SCLSNJ Selects National Leader, Peter Bromberg, as New Director

The Somerset County Library System of New Jersey (SCLSNJ) is proud to announce the appointment of Peter Bromberg as its new Library Director, effective August 1, 2025. Bromberg, a distinguished figure in the national library community, will succeed Brian Auger, who is retiring after 15 years of dedicated service as Director.

“The selection process for our new director was highly competitive, attracting an impressive field of candidates," said Roberta Karpinecz, SCLSNJ Library Commission Chair. "Peter Bromberg stood out as a clear leader in the national library community, possessing the vision, experience, and strategic approach that will undoubtedly lead SCLSNJ forward into its next chapter of excellence. His proven track record of fostering collaboration and building strong community partnerships aligns perfectly with our mission and values, ensuring that Somerset County continues to benefit from a truly superior library system."

With over 25 years of executive library management experience, Peter has distinguished himself as an innovative, human-centered leader who believes that listening, collaboration, and meaningful partnerships help organizations and people thrive. A passionate library advocate on local, state, and national levels, he has coached and trained librarians, boards, and associations to build strong community and political support for libraries.

"I am honored to be selected as the next Library Director of the Somerset County Library System," said Bromberg. "During my time as a librarian in New Jersey between 1997-2014, I was always impressed with SCLSNJ’s quality staff, leadership, and commitment to great customer service. I have family roots and close friends in the county, and my earliest memory of wonderment in a library happened right here in Somerset County.”

Bromberg continued, “I look forward to working with both the SCLSNJ staff and Library Commission. With a wide array of informative programs, access to cutting-edge technology, and welcoming spaces for community gatherings, the library system is dedicated to not only enriching individual lives and expanding knowledge, but also strengthening the overall fabric of the community. I am committed to serving the Somerset County community and discovering new ways to provide exceptional library services for generations to come."
