Commissioner Singleterry Appointed to Judge of Superior Court

(For Immediate Release): The New Jersey State Senate confirmed the appointment of Commissioner Douglas Singleterry to the state judiciary on Monday, June 2, 2025. As a result of the appointment, Commissioner Singleterry is required to resign from office, effectively immediately.

The Democratic County Committee will select an individual to fill the vacancy until the result of a special election to be held this November. The Committee has 35 days under the statute to select an Interim Commissioner.

Commissioner Singleterry was first elected to office in 2005 as a councilman in North Plainfield. He was then elected as a County Commissioner in 2020. As Commissioner he has served as liaison to Somerset County’s Vocational & Technical Schools and the County’s Department of Public Safety.

Commissioner Singleterry, through his advocacy, helped secure funding for the expansion of the VoTech facility as well as for the County’s 911 Center.

“It has been my honor to serve as an elected official for the residents of North Plainfield and for the County at large,” said Commissioner Singleterry. “I look forward to continuing that service as a judge for the state of New Jersey.”

“Doug has been an asset to the Board of County Commissioner,s where he has consistently demonstrated his commitment to the service of others and providing a voice to those in need,” said Commissioner Director Shanel Robinson. “As a Commissioner, Singleterry was instrumental in creating a coalition of County Food Banks by hosting meetings which allowed partners the space to join forces in addressing the needs of Somerset County residents.”
