The Parade Committee emphasized its pride in continuing this accessibility initiative, stating:
“We are PROUD to serve our veterans and to uphold the values of being NJ’s first Purple Heart County.”
Somerset County’s designation as New Jersey’s first Purple Heart County reflects its longstanding commitment to honoring service members and supporting those wounded or killed in combat. The Veterans Shuttle is one of the ways the county ensures dignity, access, and community connection for those who have served.
The 2026 parade is expected to draw residents from across Somerset County and the country, continuing Raritan’s tradition of celebrating the legacy of Gunnery Sgt. John Basilone, one of America’s most decorated World War II heroes.
