Governor Sherrill Signs New Legislation Advancing Environmental Safety, Housing, and Infrastructure

TRENTON — Governor Mikie Sherrill signed a series of bills into law today, marking progress on environmental protections, housing development, clean transportation, and local government operations.

The legislative package includes a ban on the sale, manufacture, and distribution of apparel and diaper products containing intentionally added PFAS chemicals (SCS for S‑1281/A‑5048), reflecting the state’s continued focus on reducing exposure to harmful substances.

Sherrill also approved the “End Data Center Tax Credits Act” (S‑4390/A‑5165), which scales back incentives under the Next New Jersey Program, aligning tax policy with updated economic priorities.

To support housing growth, the Governor signed A‑3877/S‑2960, establishing funding preferences for municipalities that expand opportunities for residential development. Clean transportation efforts advanced as well with A‑4531/S‑3738, which creates alternative compliance standards for electric vehicle charging infrastructure based on charging capacity.

Rounding out the package, A‑4687/S‑757 modernizes how local governments finance and acquire firefighting apparatus and equipment, ensuring communities can maintain reliable emergency response resources.

SCS for S-1281/A-5048 (Greenstein, Turner/Sampson, Onyema, Brennan) - Prohibits sale, manufacture, and distribution of certain apparel and diaper products containing intentionally added perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances.

S-4390/A-5165 (Cryan, Scutari, Burgess/Macurdy, Singh, Quijano) - "End Data Center Tax Credits Act"; reduces tax credits available for Next New Jersey Program.

A-3877/S-2960 (Coughlin, Speight, Reynolds-Jackson/Mukherji) - Establishes certain State funding preferences for municipalities that enhance opportunities to develop housing.

A-4531/S-3738 (Calabrese, Carter, Karabinchak/Diegnan, Wimberly) - Establishes alternative compliance standards for development of electric vehicle supply equipment and Make-Ready parking spaces based on charging capacity.

A-4687/S-757 (Bailey, Karabinchak/Burzichelli, Tiver) - Concerns local government financing and acquisition of fire fighting apparatus and equipment.
