Aging Out Conference to Support New Jersey Youth in Foster Care

Multiple state, county, and nonprofit partners within New Jersey’s child welfare system are coming together to host the Aging Out Conference: Empowering Youth in Foster Care on Friday, September 25, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Middlesex College in Edison.

Designed for youth ages 15 to 21, the conference aims to connect teens in foster care with meaningful community resources as they prepare for adulthood. Throughout the day, participants will have access to workshop sessions, exhibitors, and motivational speakers. This year’s offerings include art activities, self‑defense, theater workshops, and sessions focused on employment and educational support.

For many young people leaving foster care, the transition to independence can be overwhelming. Older youth in out‑of‑home placement often face uncertainty about their future, especially if they have not been encouraged, supported, or shown how to access the tools available to them. The conference seeks to address those gaps by offering guidance, inspiration, and practical knowledge.

The goal is simple: to help youth build the confidence, skills, and connections they need to reach their full potential.

Organizers are also working to make the day memorable. Breakfast and lunch will be provided, and the event will include entertainment and giveaways to create a welcoming, supportive environment where young people can learn, connect, and enjoy themselves.
