BROADWAY PERFORMER HEADLINES ROBERT WOOD JOHNSON UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL SOMERSET'S BREAST CANCER AWARENESS SYMPOSIUM ON OCT. 20

SOMERVILLE, NJ, Sept. 17, 2026 – Broadway star Kara Lindsay will share her breast cancer journey as the headliner for Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) Somerset's annual Breast Cancer Awareness Month Symposium, "Wickedly Strong and Brave," on  Tuesday, Oct. 20, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Bridgewater Manor.

A Stage II breast cancer survivor and one of the longest-running Glindas in the Broadway production and national tour of "Wicked," Lindsay will share her powerful story of courage, resilience, vulnerability, and hope. Her personal journey highlights the importance  of early detection, the strength of community, and finding purpose through life's greatest challenges.

She will be joined by Deborah Lue, MD, a breast surgeon with RWJBarnabas Health Medical Group who is medical director of the breast cancer program at RWJUH Somerset's Steeplechase Cancer Center. Dr. Lue will provide information on breast cancer risk factors  and warning signs; the types and stages of breast cancer; diagnosis and treatment options; prevention strategies and the importance of mammograms.

The Steeplechase Cancer Center at RWJUH Somerset, together with Rutgers Cancer Institute, the state’s only NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, provides multidisciplinary care for patients with breast cancer from diagnosis through treatment and survivorship,  including digital mammography, radiation oncology, chemotherapy, surgery, breast reconstruction and plastic surgery, patient navigation services, clinical trials, genetic testing, lymphedema treatment, scalp cooling to prevent hair loss during treatment, support  groups and complementary medicine programs. The center's Sanofi US Wellness Boutique offers specialized products and image recovery items such as prosthetics, wigs and lymphedema sleeves.

Aside from her role in "Wicked," Lindsay is best known as the original Katherine Plumber in Disney's "Newsies" on Broadway and the "Newsies" feature film on Disney+. Her other Broadway performances include "Beautiful: The Carole King Musical" and "Once Upon  a Mattress." She recently starred as Michele in the off-Broadway production of "Romy & Michele: The Musical" and is scheduled to play the lead role in "Mary Poppins" at the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn later this fall.

The cost to attend the Breast Cancer Awareness Month Symposium is $25 and includes dinner and an autograph session after the program. Pre-registration is required.
