BRIDGEWATER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (September 28, 2026) — Bridgewater Commons will celebrate the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival for the fifth consecutive year with a display of light and creativity presented by The Center for Cultural & Creative Exchange (CCCE). From Saturday, October 3, through Sunday, October 11, guests can explore 20 illuminated Chinese lanterns handcrafted by CCCE volunteers, some as young as 14 years of age. Displayed on the shopping center’s Lower and Main Levels, the lanterns stand up to 10 feet tall and feature themes ranging from nature to pop culture characters. Traditional lanterns in vibrant colors will hang from light poles throughout the Lower and Main Levels, extending the celebration beyond the displays and filling the shopping center with a festive glow.

Guests can also make their own lanterns, paint Chinese fans, play games and enjoy other traditional crafts during workshops on Saturday, October 3, and Sunday, October 4, from noon to 6 p.m. in the Event Space next to Vans on the Main Level. Lantern-making kits are $5 each.

“The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of our most spectacular and meaningful events, kicking off the fall season with a focus on family,” said Tom Kovacic, Marketing and Business Development Director of Bridgewater Commons. “We’re honored to once again work with CCCE to share this beautiful part of Chinese culture with our guests.”

The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival or Mooncake Festival, falls on September 25, 2026, and is a cherished celebration centered on family, togetherness, and gratitude. Traditionally, families gather to share mooncakes, admire the full moon, and enjoy colorful lantern displays and festivities. Bridgewater Commons is extending the celebration to the next weekend to allow families to celebrate at home and share the festival with the greater community.

Established in 2019, CCCE is a non-profit organization founded in New Jersey. Its mission of CCCE is twofold: to help preserve Chinese culture and heritage and to promote unity, harmony, and respect for all demographic groups within the community. Through sharing East Asian culture and art, CCCE provides several cultural events annually including The Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, Lunar Chinese New Year and many more.

“Bridgewater Commons remains a cherished partner for this festival and our celebration for Lunar New Year,” said Li Ching Jung, Founder of the CCCE. “The Mid-Autumn Festival is a time to gather with family, share traditions and give thanks. Bringing the lanterns to a place where so many families come together lets us share that spirit with the wider community.”

Located along Interstate 287 at the intersections of Route 22 and Route 202/206, Bridgewater Commons opened in February 1988 and has become Somerset County’s largest shopping, dining and entertainment destination.
