(For Immediate Release – Somerset County, NJ): The Somerset County Board of Elections announced that Sample Ballots for the November 3, 2026, general election will be mailed to all eligible registered voters on October 21, 2026. Only voters in Active Status and voters who did not request a vote by mail ballot are eligible to receive a Sample Ballot.

“A Sample Ballot is required to be sent to all registered and eligible voters so they can review the contests, candidates, and questions on the ballot prior to going to the polls to cast their votes” said Election Administrator Jerry Midgette. “The Sample Ballot serves several additional and important functions in the voting process. For instance, the Sample Ballot can be presented to the poll worker at check-in to expedite the voter check-in process. A poll worker can simply scan the voter’s Sample Ballot, the required voter’s information appears quickly and facilitates a smooth and accurate check-in. Therefore, we encourage voters to bring their Sample Ballot with them to vote.

The Sample Ballot can also be used to identify which contests, candidates, and questions the voter will vote for prior to entering the voting machine and thereby reducing the time it takes to cast their machine ballot.”

Voters are reminded that sample ballots are not official ballots. “Under no circumstances can a Sample Ballot be used as an official ballot to cast a vote for any contest, candidate or question on the ballot,” said Midgette. “This voter awareness of the role the Sample Ballot plays in the election process can reduce the voter check-in time as well as the time needed to cast a voting machine ballot. Since this Midterm Election is likely to be a high turnout election, every minute saved during voter check-in and casting the machine ballot will significantly improve the workflow for our poll workers as well as our voters’ overall experience.”
