BRIDGEWATER, NJ – An 18-year-old Somerset resident has been arrested and charged in connection with a violent home invasion in Bridgewater and two residential burglaries in Bernards Township and Green Brook Township, according to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.
Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald and Chief of County Detectives Meredith McKay announced the arrest of Mohamadu J. Betts, 18, of Somerset, following a multi-agency investigation led by the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Burglary Task Force.
Authorities allege that Betts was responsible for three separate incidents that occurred throughout October 2026.
The first burglary took place on October 19 at a residence on Whitenack Road in Basking Ridge. The homeowner returned to find a shattered basement window, signs of forced entry, and the home ransacked. Investigators reported that a jewelry box containing costume jewelry was stolen. Surveillance footage captured an individual with short blond and brown dreadlocks.
A second burglary occurred on October 22 at a home on Warrenville Road in Green Brook. Police initially responded to reports of a suspicious man attempting to enter the residence and lingering in the neighborhood. The suspect later returned, allegedly entered the home through an unlocked window, and stole approximately $800 in cash along with costume jewelry before fleeing.
The most serious incident occurred on October 29 on Chimney Rock Road in Bridgewater Township. Police responded to a 911 call reporting a home invasion. Investigators said the suspect assaulted a female resident, causing a laceration to her wrist, and took her phone to prevent her from calling for help. Jewelry valued at approximately $2,850 was reportedly stolen before the suspect fled the area on a dirt-bike-style electric bicycle.
Detectives noted similarities among the three incidents, including suspect descriptions and distinctive clothing accessories. The joint investigation ultimately identified Betts as the alleged perpetrator.
