Navy Commander Evita M. Salles Speaks at Somerset County Girls on the Run Site

Somerset, NJ, May 6, 2022 - - As part of Trenton’s Navy Week (May 2-8), Commander Evita M. Salles, Deputy Director, Office of Women’s Policy spoke yesterday to the St. Matthias Girls on the Run Team at Middlebush Park, Somerset. Also in attendance were Lieutenant Commander Courtney Prizer, Mary Lynch, Principal of St. Matthias School, and Donna York Executive Director of Girls on the Run Central NJ.

“I have a passion for empowering young women and was grateful for the opportunity to talk about the importance of leadership, teamwork, physical fitness, and education to these young girls,” said Commander Salles.

Commander Evita Salles, a native of Neptune, NJ, received her commission in 2008 in Newport, RI. Salles’ personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and a graduate of the Rutgers MBA program.

Trenton Navy Week brings Sailors from across the fleet to the area to emphasize the importance of the Navy to Trenton, the state of New Jersey, and the nation. More than 50 Sailors will participate in education and community outreach events throughout the city, including a Navy Day on the pier in Camden, New Jersey, on Saturday, May 7.
