Did you know? You should accept certified mail when it is delivered to you, or pick it up at the post office when you receive notice of attempted delivery. Certified mail can be an attempt to notify you so you can appear and respond to a lawsuit. Some people think they can “evade service” of pleadings by not accepting certified mail, but that will not help you. If you ignore it, even if you do not accept or sign for it, a judgment can enter against you by default.If you receive notice of pleadings or if you find a judgment has been entered against you, contact a lawyer as soon as possible to learn your options.
