BRRSD-2024-10-21-Important Message from the Superintendent About Possible Threat Response

Last week, district administration, in concert with the Bridgewater Police Department, conducted an investigation into a potential threat to the Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School. Our investigation concluded that the threat was not credible, and Principal Corliss sent the following notice to the Middle School community on Thursday, October 17.

“Over the last two days we have received inquiries into a possible threat to Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School. The threat that was rumored to take place on Sunday, October 20, was investigated by school administration, district security personnel, and local law enforcement and was deemed to not be a credible threat. Subsequent to this, there are various rumors circulating about potential threats on other dates in October, which were also determined to not be credible threats.

Please know that we investigate all reports of potential threats and exercise all necessary caution to ensure the safety and security of all students and staff.”

Unfortunately, rumors and misinformation began to circulate and were amplified via social media channels, creating a situation we attempted to avoid with our initial statement. Once more, the Bridgewater Police Department deemed the incident as not credible, and we are utilizing our district code of conduct to address this matter.

The security of our schools remains paramount to me and the entire school community. We take all reports seriously and will continue with our due diligence and collaboration with law enforcement to provide the highest level of safety for our school community. Please work with us to support this endeavor and reach out if you have any questions.
