Voters May Request and Submit Mail-in Ballots at County Admin Building Due to Temporary Closure to Water Main Break

SOMERVILLE, NJ – Due to a water main break near Route 206 in Raritan/Hillsborough Somerset County’s Administration Building in Somerville is temporarily closed to the public for most services. However, voters wishing to request or submit a mail-in ballot in-person to the Board of Elections may do so by entering through the main doors on Grove Street. Ballots may also be submitted via the U.S. Mail or in any of the 17 ballot drop boxes throughout the County.

“Somerset County is committed to ensuring every eligible voter can cast their ballot conveniently and securely, and we are maintaining access for voters to request and submit ballots without interruption,” said Somerset County Clerk Steve Peter. “Regardless of the impact of the water main break, voters will be able to come to my office in person to request a mail-in ballot until Monday, November 4 at 3 p.m.”

In order to assist voters during this high-turnout election, the Clerk has also extended his office hours for mail-in ballot requests today until 6 p.m., and will have special hours this Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.

Surrogate Tina Jalloh’s office will also continue to offer services through the temporary closure, and recycling and transportation services are similarly unaffected. Social Services has closed its Somerville offices but clients can obtain services at the Franklin and North Plainfield offices.

Early voting is currently unaffected by the water main break. Eligible in-person voters may cast their ballot at any of the six polling places open in Somerset County from Oct. 26 to Nov. 3, but must vote at their assigned polling place on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 5. Assigned polling places can be found on sample ballots mailed to every voter, and the six early voting locations are:

  • Bernards Community Center, 289 South Maple Ave, Basking Ridge
  • Bridgewater Municipal Court, 100 Commons Way, Bridgewater
  • Franklin Community Center, 505 DeMott Lane, Somerset
  • Hillsborough Municipal Building, 379 South Branch Road, Hillsborough
  • Montgomery Municipal Building, 100 Community Drive, Skillman
  • North Plainfield Community Center, 614 Greenbrook Road, North Plainfield
