On December 15, Chief Sabo proudly presented Detective Robert Taveras with the 2025 Police Officer of the Year Award, recognizing his exceptional service, professionalism, and commitment to the community.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, Detective Taveras joined the New Brunswick Police Department in August 2018. Since that time, he has consistently distinguished himself as a highly skilled and dedicated investigator, serving as a key member of the Safe Neighborhoods Area Patrol (S.N.A.P.) Unit. His work reflects not only technical excellence in investigations but a deep sense of responsibility to public safety and community trust.
Alongside his fellow officers and detectives in the S.N.A.P. Unit, Detective Taveras has helped bring countless investigations to successful conclusions. Equally important, he has established himself as a positive role model for young people throughout the community—demonstrating that integrity, discipline, and service remain the foundation of effective policing.
