SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ – Celebrate Older Americans Month (OAM) in May at the Somerset County-operated senior wellness centers where interesting programs provide seniors citizens a chance to connect with others. Seniors can visit all six-county operated senior wellness centers Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in May and every month.

Every May, the Administration for Community Living (ACL) leads the nation’s observance of OAM featuring a theme. This year, the theme is “Powered by Connection,” which recognizes the profound impact that meaningful relationships and social connections have on an individual’s health and well-being.

In recognition of OAM, and as part of the County’s Age-Friendly Communities Initiative, the senior wellness centers will be offering “Powered by Connection” programs that emphasize the vital role connectedness plays in supporting independence and aging-in-place by combatting isolation, loneliness, and other issues.

Lunch at the Senior Wellness Centers

In addition to programs and activities, senior wellness centers offer nutritionally balanced hot and cold lunches with meat and meatless, Monday through Friday. Lunch reservations are usually required by 10 a.m. on the business day before attending, unless a specific registration date is designated. There is a suggested lunch donation of $2.50 for seniors over the age 60 years and the cost of lunch for seniors under 60 years of age is $8.47.
