The Borough of Raritan Implements a Sticker with Bulk Trash Pick Up for 2026

Bulk Collection Schedule:
Bulk items will be collected on the second Thursday of the following months:March, May, July, September, November
Bulk Trash Regulations and Collection:To regulate the collection and disposal of bulk trash items, the Borough of Raritan provides curbside pickup in compliance with the Statewide Solid Waste Management Plan adopted by the NJDEP.
For better cost control and efficiency, we are implementing a Bulk Sticker Program for disposal of bulk items. In addition, to promote sustainability and encourage a greener community, the Borough recommends recycling and responsible disposal of bulk items whenever possible.
Under this program, each household will receive 10 free bulk item stickers for 2026.
Additional stickers may be purchased at a cost of $5.00 per sticker. Bulk item stickers (free and additional) can be picked up/purchased at the Public Works Office at Borough Hall between the hours of 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., a government issued ID or valid lease agreement will be required to verify current address. Each item or bag placed at the curb for collection requires one (1) sticker.

Bulk trash items include large, heavy, or bulky household items such as appliances (free of refrigerants), carpeting, furniture, and other heavy furnishings.Bulk items will be collected curbside on scheduled collection days. A bulk item sticker is required for each item placed out for collection. Only permitted bulk items will be picked up. Miscellaneous smaller items must be placed in a plastic bag weighing no more than 40 pounds. All bags must be completely drained of liquids priorto collection.
Items Not Accepted:
The following items will not be collected as part of bulk trash pickup:
- Appliances containing Freon (e.g., refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers)
- Car parts, tires, or batteries
- Consumer electronics (computers, printers, telephones, cell phones)
- Hazardous waste (e.g., motor oil, antifreeze, propane tanks, fluorescent tubes, oil-based paints, chemicals)
- Masonry items and construction materials (e.g., concrete, bricks, blocks, stone, dirt)
- Medical waste
- Recyclable materials (e.g., newspapers, plastics, glass bottles, chipboard, cardboard)
- Renovation materials (e.g., lumber, plywood, tile, siding, roofing materials)
- Grass Clippings – may be dropped off at the Public Works yard (1 Busky Lane) on designated days - Plastic bags are NOT accepted, and nothing may be left outside the gate
Municipal Solid Waste Guidelines:
- Mattresses, box springs, and upholstered items must be wrapped in plastic (per ordinance 2024-19)
- Municipal waste household amount is three cans or three bags per household (per ordinance 2024-09)
- Municipal waste receptacles must be 50 gallons or less in volume (per ordinance 2024-09)
- Municipal waste should be placed at the curb no earlier than 4:00 p.m. the evening before collection (per Borough Code 315-18)
