In Hillsborough, summer doesn’t just mean warmer days—it means another season of backhands, forehands, and friendship on the courts of Raider Tennis Camps. Now wrapping up for the season, the popular youth tennis program has once again done more than build athletic skill. It’s built confidence, connection, and community.
At the center of it all is Larry Johnson, whose name is synonymous with tennis in Hillsborough.
As the Director of Raider Tennis Camps, Head Coach for Hillsborough High School’s Boys and Girls Tennis Teams, and Director of Summer Tennis Programs for Hillsborough Township Parks & Recreation, Johnson brings more than decades of experience to the game—he brings heart.
Whether encouraging a beginner to hold a racket for the first time or guiding a seasoned teen toward varsity goals, Johnson is known for creating an environment where every player feels seen, supported, and inspired to do their best.
Throughout the summer, campers sharpened their skills under the guidance of experienced coaches, many of whom are standout athletes from Hillsborough’s championship-caliber teams. Whether rallying on the court or cheering from the sidelines, participants were immersed in a positive and inclusive environment where sportsmanship and teamwork were just as important as backhands and volleys.
The courts have become a place where kids find more than their footing—they find friends.
Now, as the nets come down and the final high-fives are exchanged, the impact of Raider Tennis Camps lingers far beyond the baseline as students continue their fall tennis season.
