Entertainment News: An American town's struggle to remain quintessential is the focus of a new documentary
A documentary about Manville by Joe DeVito III, "The Asbestos City," runs 85 minutes. Digital arts is Devito's area of expertise at Immaculata High School in Somerville. After an earlier screening at Reading Cinemas in May, the 85-minute documentary is scheduled to screen at Reading Cinemas Manville from August 2-8. Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to Manville charities. The cost of tickets is $5. New Hope Film Festival awarded the film the Audience Choice Award for Best Documentary. At the Princeton Environmental Film Festival, the documentary was an official selection
According to DeVito, frequent cyclical flooding over the years has damaged Main Street businesses and transformed the once-thriving neighborhood.
“Asbestos City” hopes to show neighboring towns and counties that stormwater management and overdevelopment are not limited to their borders, and that they share the same problems with Manville. “We can work together to find solutions,” DeVito says, adding he’s in favor of a regional flood commission.
