Manville School District Wins Gold for Staff Wellness Initiative

MANVILLE, NJ – June 2026 – Manville School District has been awarded the prestigious 2026 Healthy Workplace Gold Award by Healthier Somerset. The award recognizes the district’s outstanding commitment to employee wellness and its proactive implementation of staff-focused health initiatives.

The distinction was officially announced during an awards ceremony held on June 16, 2026, at the Somerville Elks, where local corporations, non-profits, and public entities were celebrated for creating exemplary cultures of workplace wellness. Manville School District was named a Gold Award winner alongside notable local organizations, including SHI International Corp., Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset, and the Peapack Private Bank & Trust.

Manville School District was specifically recognized for its innovative "Mindful May" program. Designed to address employee burnout and promote physical and mental well-being, the initiative utilized a scheduled student early-dismissal day in May to transition afternoon staff in-service time into a dedicated wellness retreat.

During "Mindful May," district faculty and staff were empowered to choose from a curated menu of wellness and de-stressing activities. Staff members participated in yoga classes, engaged in community-building through board games, and took mindful, active walks through nearby Dukes Park.

"Our staff gives 100% to our students every single day, and 'Mindful May' was our way of pouring back into them," said a spokesperson for Manville School District. "Receiving the Gold Award from Healthier Somerset validates our belief that staff wellness is foundational to educational excellence. We are honored by this recognition and remain committed to fostering a healthy, supportive workplace environment."

Healthier Somerset, a coalition of civic, business, and health leaders, presents the Healthy Workplace Awards annually to encourage employers to build a healthier Somerset County by implementing evidence-based wellness programs.
