Park Commission Hosting Free Exotic Photo Exhibit ‘On Safari in Tanzania

BASKING RIDGE, NJ – Explore the wildlife of Tanzania through the lens of professional nature photographer Steve Kanan at the Somerset County Park Commission’s Environmental Education Center (EEC). Visitors at the EEC will enjoy the captivating photo exhibit, “On Safari in Tanzania.” The free exhibit is available every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Nov. 20 but will be closed on Nov. 8 (Election Day) and Nov. 11(Veterans Day).

The installation features photos of Steve Kanan’s journey while traveling via canoe and jeep across various terrain throughout Tanzania. View photos of wildlife in their natural habitats, such as exotic birds, hippos, giraffes, rhinos, elephants and baboons; and marvel at the migration of up to 200,000 zebras and 1 million wildebeest inhabiting the Serengeti.

Visitors will be captivated by photos taken at Ngorongoro Crater, where spectacular wildlife exists, and geological spectacles formed from the remains of an ancient volcanic eruption. Steve Kanan also travels to Mahale Mountains National Park to photograph chimpanzees, and ends his journey in Zanzibar, where he takes photographs of a population of endangered Red Colobus monkeys.

As a nature enthusiast and environmentalist, Steve Kanan believes he can help raise awareness about the plight of the world’s majestic wildlife through his photography. His interest and concern for endangered species began when he watched a conservation-status debate about the Snail Darter, a type of freshwater fish that was eventually listed as endangered under the Endangered Species Act in 1973.

Environmental Education Center (EEC)
The EEC at Lord Stirling Park offers approximately nine miles of hiking trails, programs led by Naturalists, school field trips, fun festivals, nature-themed exhibits, facility and classroom rentals, a resource library, science and conservation research, and more. The EEC’s goal is to improve environmental literacy in Somerset County and beyond.
