CAMDEN, NJ DECEMBER 9, 2022 – The American Water Charitable Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization established by American Water, the largest publicly traded U.S. water and wastewater utility company, recently announced four organizations were awarded a 2022 Workforce Readiness Grant, supporting communities served by New Jersey American Water.

“We are pleased to see four local non-profit organizations that have been awarded $70,000 in funding from the American Water Charitable Foundation to assist workforce development programming across the state,” said Mark McDonough, president of New Jersey American Water. “By supporting the important work these organizations provide, we are empowering the next generation while improving the diverse communities we serve.”

The Workforce Readiness grant is part of the American Water Charitable Foundation’s Keep Communities Flowing Grant Program, focusing on three pillars of giving: Water, People and Communities. Below is the list of Workforce Readiness grantees in New Jersey.

  • Center For Family Services was awarded $10,000 to support their InDemand Workforce Pathways Program. In Demand is an intensive job readiness, occupational training and credentialing program that is open to all Camden City residents aged 18 and older who are seeking meaningful employment.
  • Hispanic Family Center Southern NJ was awarded $25,000 to support their ESL, Civics Workforce Program. This program assists adults in obtaining job skills and training for employment and financial literacy for economic self-sufficiency.
  • Roots & Wings Foundation was awarded $10,000 to support their RISE (Residential Independence, Self-Sufficiency and Education) Program. This program provides young adults who have aged out of the foster care system with stable environments so they can pursue their education with full concentration. The program also provides educational support, financial literacy, workforce readiness and life skills to empower these young adults to rise towards their greatest potential.
  • Junior Achievement of New Jersey was awarded $25,000 to support their Preparing New Jersey's Students Today for Tomorrow's Workplace program. This program will empower Plainfield students with the skills to be workforce ready.

“The American Water Charitable Foundation is pleased to partner with organizations across New Jersey American Water to help improve job readiness skills for young adults and outcomes for youth as they prepare to be future leaders of tomorrow,” said Carrie Williams, president, American Water Charitable Foundation. “Funding for the Workforce Readiness grant helps support general career readiness, financial and business literacy, positive youth development and more.”
