The black diamond apple was planted in Nyingchi in 2012 in Tibet. Apples often come in red, green, and yellow colors or combinations of these colors. Tibet, however, is a place where black diamond apples can grow if the climate is right. In Chinese markets, they are sold in packages of six to eight or individually for $7.00 or more.

What do they taste like? They are popular as gifts in China, like watermelon, because they are extremely sweet and thick-skinned. The apple tree matures in 2 to 5 years but the black diamond apple tree has been known to grow in 8 years. The hue is a dark purple that is close to black in appearance, which is still a mystery to even its growers.
