From the press release and social media pages -

Norwescap was proud to sponsor a scholarship this year through the Warren/Sussex County NAACP, presented last Sunday to a bright, inspiring young Rutgers student named Kayla Huggins. Kayla is a graduate of Warren Hills Regional High School and is currently in her sophomore year at Rutgers University, studying Cell Biology and Neuroscience. Her dream is to become a medical doctor, and along with her academic achievements, she is an accomplished pianist and vocalist.

As part of her scholarship application, Kayla wrote an essay discussing whether America has achieved its vision of equal opportunity for all. Her essay concluded, “While efforts have been made, much work remains to address the systemic issues that still exist. The ‘more perfect union’ that was envisioned has not yet come to fruition. Legal protections against discrimination must be strengthened and enforced, and systemic inequalities must be addressed through policy and legislative changes.

Activism and advocacy for civil rights in all areas is what must continue in order to progress our society in emulating the desired principles of equality and justice.” We are grateful to have strong advocates like Kayla continuing the fight for justice and equity, and we look forward to seeing what she accomplishes in the future. Congratulations, Kayla – you make all of us at Norwescap proud!
