On Monday, 31 July at 1231 pm, the Flemington-Raritan Rescue Squad, Raritan Township Fire Company and Hunterdon Medical Center's mobile intensive care unit EMS-1 were dispatched to the area of U.S. Route 202 southbound near River Road for an overturned tractor trailer.Â
This was updated moments later as an overturned dump truck. The Rescue Squad responded with BLS Ambulances 4953 and 4952, along with Heavy Rescue 495.Â
Upon arrival, the crews found a single vehicle crash with a tri-axle dump truck on its side in the left turn lane, leaking diesel fuel and with its load of soil spilled into the northbound lanes of travel. The driver was out of the vehicle and complaining of minor injuries. The driver was transported to Hunterdon Medical Center by BLS Ambulance 4953 for treatment.Â
The crew of the Rescue assisted the Fire Company and Hunterdon County Haz-Mat with spill control by initially using the dumped soil to contain the diesel fuel and prevent it from entering storm drains.Rescue Squad units were available in about an hour. The crash was investigated by the Raritan Township Police Department.
