BRIDGEWATER – Students in Ed Graf’s History classes and members of the Red Cross Club at Somerset County Vocational and Technical High School (SCVTHS) recently collected supplies for military veterans and active duty service members.

Over the past three weeks the students collected enough toiletries, socks, clothes and other materials to fill 40 document storage sized boxes. Students will personally deliver some of the supplies to the Veterans Administration Hospital in Lyons. The remaining items will be shipped to members of the military serving in the U.S. and abroad. Postage for the shipments has been paid for through donations made by private citizens and local civic organizations.

Students contributed as an outgrowth of the lessons learned in the classroom. According to student George Ghanime of Bridgewater “Mr. Graf shows his love of country through what he says and does and that has helped our class realize that we should give back to those who serve.” His classmate Nathaniel Conti of Gladstone agreed, adding “We are very willing to donate and are thankful for the military who have risked their lives and the families that support them.”

This is one of many projects undertaken by Mr. Graf’s classes at SCVTHS that both honor and show appreciation to past and present members of the U.S. Armed Services and their families.
