Twenty-one Middle School Latin students received awards in national exam

Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School 8th Grade students certainly know their Latin. The proof is the results that the Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School recently received from the National Latin Exam.

This year, according to Lindsay Rath, who is the Middle School Latin Teacher, 30 students from the school participated in the exam and 21 of them earned certificates and medals. And four of these Latin scholars achieved a perfect score.

Ms. Rath explained that the National Latin Exam (NLE) is a test given annually to Latin students across the United States and around the world. The NLE is an opportunity for students to receive reinforcement and recognition for their accomplishments in the classroom. Depending upon their score, students may earn certificates and medals and may even qualify for scholarships. The exam was optional for students to participate in and was administered during the school day.

Ms. Rath reported the breakdown of the awards: eight Summa Cum Laude Gold Medals,, eight Maxima Cum Laude Silver Medals, three Magna Cum Laude, and two Cum Laude.

Below are the names of the Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School 8th graders who won each award:

Summa Cum Laude (Gold Medal) and each student received a perfect score - Divya Lakshman, Heewon Park, Amelia Schenk, Ethan Zhou.

Cum Laude - Brooke Engstrom, Anish Gannamaneni.

Magna Cum Laude - Charvi Reddy Kamjula, Julie Silvestro, Benjamin Simons.

Maxima Cum Laude (Silver Medal) - Thripura Arunraj, Douglas Hesse, Kate Hinton, Arnav Korgaonkar, Arihaan Mallick, Sahasra Pogadadanda, Anne Siy, Sarah Thompson.

Summa Cum Laude (Gold Medal) - Davin Adams, Eliza Mihalick, Laya Sankaran, Justin Schmidt.
