RVCC to Present Concert Featuring Pianist Vladimir Valjarević and Violinist Miroslav Hristov

Raritan Valley Community College’s Arts & Design department will present “Music from the Balkans,” a concert featuring violinist Miroslav Hristov and pianist Vladimir Valjarević, on May 14, at 7 p.m. The event, the final program in the MOZAIKA Concert Seriescurrent season, will be held in the Welpe Theatre at the College’s Branchburg campus.

The performance will feature music by George Enescu, Isidora Žebeljan, Alojz Srebotnjak, Peter Hristoskov, Fazil Say, Dora Pejačević, Lyubomir Pipkov, and Pancho Vladigerov.

Violinist Miroslav Hristov has been hailed by Fanfare Magazine for his “razor-sharp technique” and “full palette of tonal colors.” He presents master classes and performs extensively throughout the U.S., Europe, Latin America, and Asia. Hristov has won competition prizes and has recorded for Centaur Records, Romeo Records, Blue Griffin Records, the Divine Arts label, Bulgarian National Radio, and WUOT Knoxville. His recordings and performances have received enthusiastic reviews from The Strad Magazine, Fanfare, DUMA (Bulgaria), and Lucid Culture. Hristov is Professor of Violin at the University of Tennessee. He is also the founder/director of the university’s Ready for the World Music Series.

Vladimir Valjarević has distinguished himself as a performing and recording artist, educator, and administrator. He has appeared on concert stages in America, Asia, and Europe, and has issued critically acclaimed CDs for Labor Records, Romeo Records, Centaur Records, Blue Griffin, and MSR Classics. As an educator and administrator, he has created and taught courses and masterclasses, trained teachers, administered festivals and school departments, and lectured at festivals and seminars. He currently teaches at Mannes School of Music in New York and Rutgers University, as well as with a variety of festivals and programs. Vladimir Valjarević is a Steinway Artist.

The MOZAIKA Concert Series is designed to promote multicultural dialogue through the performance of music from the classical canon through the 21st Century. Concert proceeds will benefit the Applied Music Fund for purchases of musical instruments and scholarships for RVCC music students.
